HELMUT NEWTON – Berlin, Berlin

info
Helmut Newton photographed Berlin for German Vogue in 1979. He followed in the footsteps of his youth in the city and captured the fashionable summer. The resulting portfolio, ‘Berlin, Berlin!’, inspired the title of the exhibition. The book includes Newton's most iconic Berlin images as well as many unknown shots from the 1930s to the 2000s: Night owls in clubs and restaurants, portraits in hotels, fashion stories at Grunewaldsee and of course the Berlin icons, the Wall, the Radio Tower and the Victory Column. The book is peppered with handwritten comments by the photographer, facsimiles of magazine titles and double-page spreads from the period, as well as little anecdotes to place the photographs in context.
