How can science become visible in public space? For the permanent “Lindau Nobel” exhibition at Berlin’s Gendarmenmarkt, Naroska developed a spatial identity that functions as both exhibition and event space.

Created to mark a double anniversary — 25 years of “Nobel Heroes”, the unique global portrait project by photographer Peter Badge, and 75 years of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings — the exhibition establishes a permanent place for encounter, exchange and inspiration. Since 1951, the Lindau Meetings have brought Nobel Laureates together with some of the world’s most promising young scientists. With “Lindau Nobel”, this dialogue now gains a lasting presence in Berlin.

At the heart of the design is an open, adaptable exhibition system. Bespoke picture rails structure the space and provide a flexible framework for displaying the photographic works. The architecture is not treated as a neutral backdrop, but as an active part of the experience: large-scale photographic wallpapers sit alongside traditional photographic prints, while semi-transparent graphics applied to the glass façades extend the portraits into the surrounding city.

The interplay of scale creates rhythm and intimacy. Some faces meet visitors at eye level; others occupy entire surfaces, revealing the extraordinary scope of this global community. The result is not a static archive, but a flexible environment designed to accommodate exhibitions, conversations, events and encounters.

An introductory text by Wim Wenders provides a personal and poetic point of entry, reflecting on the enduring fascination of the Laureates themselves. “Lindau Nobel” translates scientific excellence into an immediate visual experience, creating a lasting interface between art, science and public dialogue.
